Cuts to legal aid means many mothers and fathers end up representing themselves, which means women can find themselves in the awful position of being cross-examined in front of a hostile judge by their abuser. Two things have made the situation worse. Women can find themselves in a catch-22, told by social services they must leave their abuser or risk their children being taken into care, but then disbelieved by a judge when that abuser applies for contact. There is evidence that the system is too quick to assume domestic abuse affects only mothers, not children and that women and children are safe once a relationship is over. It’s also a well-known truth amongst lawyers and domestic abuse charities that there are judges on the circuit who take against women alleging domestic abuse, and I’ve heard horror stories from domestic abuse survivors about their treatment at the hands of judges: think being called “the girl who cried wolf” as the judge ignores evidence to the contrary. That hasn’t stopped the judge involved continuing to preside over family court cases involving domestic abuse allegations and making a similar ruling in another case. Some judges have no understanding of domestic abuse – as highlighted in an excoriating high court ruling that overturned a finding by a senior male judge that it wasn’t rape “because she didn’t fight back”. This did not stop the government introducing a garbled reform in 2014 that told courts to presume that, unless shown to the contrary, a parent’s involvement in their child’s life will always be to the child’s benefit.īut there is growing evidence to suggest women who have suffered domestic abuse and are worried for their children’s safety face an uphill battle to be taken seriously. It concluded that there should be no legal change that “might risk creating a parental ‘right’ to any particular amount of time with a child” as it would undermine the principle that a child’s welfare is paramount. A 2011 review of family law drew on evidence from Australia, where a legal presumption of shared parenting has been associated with poorer emotional outcomes for children. Their claims of court bias against men have gained broad traction in the debate around the subject, despite evidence to the contrary: a review of published court decisions found that they promote as much contact as possible with fathers, even in cases of proven domestic violence. It has become progressively nastier since then – including a “crummy mummy” campaign singling out famous women for criticism.įathers 4 Justice demand the law enshrines a presumption of 50-50 contact. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the formation of Fathers 4 Justice, a guerilla campaign perhaps best remembered for flourbombing Tony Blair at Prime Minister’s Questions. The lack of transparency about how these decisions are made has allowed a dangerous narrative to prevail: that the system is biased against fathers. Yet judges need to be confident that if they are going to severely restrict a parent’s contact with their child, that parent must probably pose a risk to the child’s welfare. These can be life-and-death decisions – at least 50 children have been killed as a result of contact with abusive parents after separation in the last 25 years. Two in five marriages end in divorce, and there are more than 40,000 cases a year that come before the courts that relate to custody and contact with children, a majority including allegations of domestic abuse. He can also create magical items out of nowhere like his magical bottomless briefcase, and even turn into a dragon when he becomes greedy (or if the writers and artists decide to mess with him). He can weaken the powers of others, including the godlike literal, Mr. Magical Abilities: As one of the most popular fables around (to the point that he made himself into the “center of the universe”), random magical things happen around Jack which affects him and the people around him, including both friends and foes.Even magical attacks, like being frozen by his son, Jack Frost II, can’t kill him. He can still feel pain, get wounded, or even knocked out, but he can and will recover using a healing power. Nigh-Invulnerability: By making deals with various devils like Old Scratch, Pan, Lucifer, Chernabog, and Nick Slick to extend his lifespan, Jack has made himself essentially unkillable. He can easily lift a person above his head and can draw his gun fast enough to hit Bigby Wolf. His fable powers is even amplified further when he made a film trilogy about himself which boosted his popularity, turning himself into a “bastion of strength and invulnerability”. Fable Physiology: As one of the most popular fable, Jack Horner is stronger, faster, and more durable than an average human. The common thread is how Jack honestly believes he is the most important person around and only his needs and desires matter. Jack is often presented as believing himself to be far smarter than he truly is and for a man who has lived a long time, has little regard for history (at one point, he compares himself to Sam Bowie and Hector and how "like them, I will be victorious."). In his devoted spin-off series "Jack Of Fables", his nigh-immortality seems to be reinforced by other causes as well : he is the son of a literal woman and one of the most popular male Fables (making him a "part-Literal", which is equivalent to a demigod), and he has made countless deals with many devils during his Jack O' Lantern days. In the series, Jack creates a film trilogy of his adventures to increase his popularity in the Mundy world making him "nigh-immortal". He can also have true feelings for others (he asks Beast about Snow White and her cubs, he mourns his wife's death and he considered putting his own safety at risk to protect Gary when the Librarians had captured them and were having a car accident). Despite his scheming and reckless personality, he is a devoted foe of the Adversary and a capable combatant in his own right, due to his years of experience fighting giants. However, Jack also displays a complete disregard for human life or the feelings of those around him, traits most often seen in those with sociopathy. As one of these Fable refugees, Horner is based on various nursery rhymes and fables with characters named Jack including Little Jack Horner, Jack and the Beanstalk, Jack and Jill, Jack Be Nimble, Jack Frost, Jack O'Lantern, and Jack the Giant Killer and othersĪs a con artist, he is always looking for quick ways to make a buck. In the world of Fables, characters from various fairy tales, nursery rhymes and folklore stories (known as Fables) have migrated to the real world (aka the "Mundane" world) in order to escape a conqueror known only as the adversary. Jack Horner, also known as the Jack of Tales or popularly as the legendary Jack of Fables is a major character in the Fables comic book series and The Wolf Among Us video game adaptation. Keep in mind when you whitewash over bare wood the wash will easily absorb into the wood much easier. You may or may not be surprised to know that when you want to know how to whitewash over stained wood, whether the stain is new or old you still need to prep. At this point, you will also want to check inside and wipe out any dust that may be hiding behind and under the drawers. Now that the hardware is taken off we can remove the drawers and start to prep this piece for its whitewash makeover. You don’t want to lose any important parts. Since we are not replacing the hardware (there is no need to) make sure to place all of the pieces and screws somewhere safe. I am using my ratchet screwdriver with exchangeable bits. There were some major casting "snafus," from rock star and Prince-protégé Appolonia, playing to type as a character sporting her same name, to Gregory Harrison as a rival for Richard Channing's empire. Lana Turner, Mel Ferrer, Cesar Romero, Eve Arden, Celeste Holm, Kim Novak, and Rod Taylor were just some of the famous that entered the gates of Falcon Crest. Other cast members came and went, a veritable "who's who" of "Old Hollywood". Possibly the most popular characterization was David Selby as "Richard Channing," Angela's chief nemesis that would later be revealed as her son. Chao Li Chi played the chauffeur and confidant to Mrs. Margaret Ladd as "looney" daughter "Emma" was a treat to watch each week, as was Abby Dalton as her manipulative sister and the mother to Lamas's character. Lorenzo Lamas and Ana Alicia as Angela's grandson and granddaughter-in-law provided enough tension, in and out of the bedroom, to supply several soap operas. Moses and, initially, Jamie Rose were their children, brought into a community to which they were ill-suited. Susan Sullivan, already a favorite from the daily soap "Another World," gained a wider audience as Chase's wife Maggie, following his dream to achieve success as a wine maker. Though Robert Foxworth received second billing, it was evident that other characters were more popular. However, she was surrounded by a cast of superb performers. It wasn't until the show's last season that poor health prevented her from appearing in no more than the first and last installments. For most of the show's nine-year run, no one could best Jane Wyman's "Angela Channing," the writers providing her with the best lines, the best wardrobe, and, in most episodes, the final scene. O.J.Wyman, The former wife 39th President Ronald Reagan triumphantly returned to television in the nighttime soap opera "Falcon Crest". America Salutes Richard Rodgers: The Sound of His Music. The Dallas- Falcon Crest one-two punch proved lucrative for the network and Falcon Crest was a top-20 show in the Nielsen Ratings for several years. The series first aired in December 1981, when CBS scheduled Falcon Crest at 10 pm on Friday nights, right after Dallas. An unaired pilot episode was produced, but CBS requested that Hamner make the show more along the lines of Dallas, which was the network's biggest hit at that time. The script was rewritten and several cast members changed for what became Falcon Crest. Hamner wanted to create a family drama involving the wine industry entitled The Vintage Years. The show was created by Earl Hamner, Jr., who had previously created The Waltons, which had just finished its final season in 1981. The series was set in the fictitious Tuscany Valley (modeled after the Napa Valley) northeast of San Francisco. Jane Wyman starred as Angela Channing, the tyrannical matriarch of the Falcon Crest Winery, alongside Robert Foxworth as Chase Gioberti, Angela's nephew who returns to Falcon Crest after the death of his father. The series revolved around the feuding factions of the wealthy Gioberti/Channing family in the Californian wine industry. Falcon Crest is an American prime time television soap opera that aired for nine seasons on CBS from Decemto May 17, 1990. Conversely, the PPF will shift inward if the labour force shrinks, the supply of raw materials is depleted, or a natural disaster decreases the stock of physical capital. Such a shift reflects, for instance, economic growth of an economy already operating at its full productivity (on the PPF), which means that more of both outputs can now be produced during the specified period of time without sacrificing the output of either good. PPFs are normally drawn as bulging upwards or outwards from the origin ("concave" when viewed from the origin), but they can be represented as bulging downward (inwards) or linear (straight), depending on a number of assumptions.Īn outward shift of the PPC results from growth of the availability of inputs, such as physical capital or labour, or from technological progress in knowledge of how to transform inputs into outputs. By doing so, it defines productive efficiency in the context of that production set: a point on the frontier indicates efficient use of the available inputs (such as points B, D and C in the graph), a point beneath the curve (such as A) indicates inefficiency, and a point beyond the curve (such as X) indicates impossibility.įigure 1: A production possibilities frontier Graphically bounding the production set for fixed input quantities, the PPF curve shows the maximum possible production level of one commodity for any given production level of the other, given the existing state of technology. One good can only be produced by diverting resources from other goods, and so by producing less of them. This tradeoff is usually considered for an economy, but also applies to each individual, household, and economic organization. A PPF illustrates several economic concepts, such as allocative efficiency, economies of scale, opportunity cost (or marginal rate of transformation), productive efficiency, and scarcity of resources (the fundamental economic problem that all societies face). In microeconomics, a production–possibility frontier ( PPF), production possibility curve ( PPC), or production possibility boundary ( PPB) is a graphical representation showing all the possible options of output for two goods that can be produced using all factors of production, where the given resources are fully and efficiently utilized per unit time. Visualization of all possible options of output for a two-good economy Another factor is the rate of token creation However, not all cryptocurrencies are created equal, and there are various factors that can influence the supply of a token. The first factor that contributes to low supply tokens is the maximum cap on the number of coins that can be mined or created. Some cryptocurrencies have a fixed cap on the total number of coins that can ever exist, like Bitcoin, whereas others have a supply that increases over time, like Ethereum. The lower the maximum cap, the rarer the token and the more valuable it becomes.
